Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have appeared before a federal court in Miami, marking the start of extradition proceedings to the UK to face 59 charges, including rape and sex trafficking, brought by the Crown Prosecution Service. The brothers, dual British-US citizens who deny all wrongdoing, have been held in a Florida jail since their arrest on Saturday; their lawyer told reporters after the brief hearing that they would fight the extradition attempt, describing it as a "political kidnapping".

The CPS said the latest 38 charges follow fresh evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims to seven, with the alleged offences said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. In court, the brothers wore prison uniforms and were handcuffed and shackled, speaking only to confirm they understood their rights. Their attorney, Joe McBride, estimated the extradition process could take around 60 days, with the next hearing set for 27 July; any final decision would rest with the Trump administration. The pair also face separate human trafficking and sexual exploitation charges in Romania, which they deny, and a US civil case alleging coercion into sex work and subsequent defamation.
