An Illinois man is accused of fatally stabbing his half-brother during an argument and then, with the victim's wife, dismembering and concealing the body. James Adams, 26, and Robin Turner, 62, have been charged with concealment of a homicide and dismembering a human body over the death of 38-year-old Dalewayne Turner. The case matters as a grim illustration of a violent domestic killing and an elaborate attempt to hide it, which unravelled by chance when body parts surfaced in a lake.

The crime came to light on 28 June when boaters spotted part of a human arm in Lake Mattoon, and investigators later recovered further remains, identifying the victim through distinctive tattoos. According to court documents, Adams admitted the stabbing but claimed self-defence, while the victim's wife failed to alert police. The pair allegedly took extensive steps to cover their tracks, using bleach to clean the home and mask odours, repainting the house, burning wood panelling and disposing of rugs. Some remains were found in the lake and others in a freezer, with the wife claiming the works were part of a renovation carried out between 21 and 30 June.
