Taylor Bleu’s ‘Staircase’ Is A Searing Ode To Sanctuary

Clash · 4 hours ago

South London artist Taylor Bleu has released ‘Staircase’, a piano-led single from his forthcoming debut EP, ‘Crayon Scars’. The song reflects on the staircase that served as a safe, non-judgemental space during his childhood, and has also become associated with the social-media performances through which many listeners discovered him.

‘Crayon Scars’ is due for release on 25 September and follows earlier singles ‘Mad House’ and ‘City of Angels’. Bleu describes the EP as an honest account of surviving neglect and abuse, while framing it as a hopeful beginning to his “rebirth”; his sound is compared with artists including Sampha, James Blake and Frank Ocean.
