## Key points

- *Mayor of Kingstown* will end with an eight-episode fifth season.
- David Morse joins as an FBI agent seeking Callahan.
- Sheridan had reportedly envisioned a story lasting seven seasons.

## Summary

*Mayor of Kingstown* is set to end with its fifth season, giving Taylor Sheridan another chance to deliver a satisfying conclusion after *Yellowstone*’s final season was affected by Kevin Costner’s departure. The crime drama’s new season will bring FBI agent Russell Hardy to Kingstown, where his pursuit of a fugitive could expose the secrets Mike McLusky has worked to keep hidden.

Hardy, played by David Morse, is looking for Callahan, whom Kyle killed after a prison riot in the season four finale. Season five will have eight episodes, down from the ten in each previous season, despite co-creator Hugh Dillon saying Sheridan had planned a story that could run for seven seasons. The series has also moved to a new streaming service, which may help it attract a larger audience.
