## Key points

- Antonoff says Sheeran should have resisted pressure over Macklemore.
- NFL owners reportedly threatened Sheeran’s stadium performances.
- Sheeran acknowledged suffering in Israel and Gaza.

## Summary

Producer Jack Antonoff criticised Ed Sheeran for removing Macklemore from his tour after the rapper voiced support for Palestinians. Antonoff said Sheeran should have resisted pressure from wealthy interests, cancelled the tour and held free concerts outside the venues, arguing the episode showed how billionaires can influence artists’ decisions.

The article says New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was among NFL team owners who reportedly threatened to bar Sheeran’s stadium performances if Macklemore remained on the bill. Sheeran later described the 7 October attack in Israel as horrific and the situation in Gaza as catastrophic and unjustifiable; several other opening acts withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore. Film critic Christian Toto challenged Antonoff’s position, asking how cancelling or replacing the tour would affect workers and their pay.
