Texas Christian University has reversed its decision to revoke press credentials from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, restoring the local newspaper's access just days after stripping it ahead of the college football season's start. The credentials had been pulled following the paper's report on a locker room altercation that led to the dismissal of senior safety Jacob Fields, prompting criticism given the sport's reliance on transparent local media coverage and the added irony that TCU's stadium is named after the newspaper's founder.

The dispute meant Star-Telegram reporter Steven Johnson had to cover TCU's season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland, from the stands rather than with normal press access; TCU lost that game 15-10. TCU Athletics has since confirmed that following "productive discussions" it has fully restored the outlet's credentials, stating it respects the paper's role as an independent local news source. The Horned Frogs next play at home against Grambling State on 12 September.
