## Key points

- Cruz called the midterm losses a major rejection of the GOP.
- Republicans lost every statewide election in Texas.
- He urged the party to focus on voters’ economic concerns.

## Summary

Senator Ted Cruz described Democrats’ 2026 midterm victories as a “Watergate-level repudiation” of the Republican Party and said the GOP must reckon with its losses. He pointed to Texas, where Republicans lost every statewide contest, and argued that voters rejected the party despite turning out.

Cruz said cost-of-living concerns, including tariffs and the prolonged Iran war, were among the issues Republicans had failed to address. He warned that Democrats might pursue policies on taxes, energy and transgender issues that he says would harm Texans, while calling for the GOP to rebuild support among blue-collar voters, Evangelicals, rural residents, young people and Hispanics.
