- Democrats won every statewide race in Texas.
- Cruz blamed voter frustration and vowed a Republican comeback.

## Summary

Senator Ted Cruz described the 2026 midterm results as a “blue tsunami” after Democrats won every statewide race in Texas and took control of both chambers of Congress. He said Republicans had lost touch with voters and failed to respond to the cost-of-living pressures that shaped the result.

Democrats James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa won the Senate and governor’s races, respectively, ending decades of Republican dominance in Texas; Talarico’s win was the state’s first Democratic Senate victory in nearly four decades. Cruz cited high prices, tariffs and the war with Iran as sources of frustration, and said Republicans had lost support among several voter groups. He congratulated Talarico and said he would work with him, while predicting Republicans could win Texas back.
