Production designers Brandon Tonner-Connolly and Matt Hyland have spoken to Deadline about creating the surreal visual world of Jane Schoenbrun's new film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which stars Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson. The interview offers insight into how the pair built the film's distinctive, unsettling look under tight time pressure, giving audiences and fellow film-makers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the craft underpinning Schoenbrun's latest genre-bending horror project.

Working in Canada's Pacific Northwest, the designers had just 25 days to realise the film's look, collaborating closely with Schoenbrun, the cinematographer and local artists. Techniques included an old-school optical glass matte effect for the most demanding sequences, flesh-like textures built into the walls, and theatre carpet imported across the border, alongside smaller details such as bespoke fried chicken dipping sauces and trails of sweets, all designed to reinforce the story's psychosexual, cult-slasher atmosphere.
