Teenager dies following medical episode at Kendal Calling Festival

NME · 2 hours ago

A 17-year-old girl died in the early hours of Sunday morning after suffering a medical episode at Kendal Calling festival in Cumbria, police have confirmed. Emergency responders attended the scene but were unable to save her, and Cumbria Police are now investigating the circumstances of her death, appealing for witnesses to come forward. The festival organisers said they were "deeply saddened" and offered condolences to her family and friends.

Cumbria Police said the teenager fell ill at around 2am on Sunday 2 August near the Calling Out tent and Big Wheel, and was pronounced dead at the scene despite intervention. Officers particularly want to speak to a group of women who alerted first responders after becoming concerned for her welfare, and have asked the public not to speculate out of respect for her family. Kendal Calling, marking its 21st anniversary this year with headliners including Wolf Alice, Biffy Clyro, Primal Scream, Scissor Sisters and The Libertines, said its security and medical teams responded immediately when she became unwell. Anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101 (quoting incident number 26 of 2 August 2026) or Crimestoppers anonymously.
