## Key points

- Ecclesall Road traders blamed parking fines for falling footfall
- Owners called the impact on trade "terrible"
- Full details of the policy remain unconfirmed

## Summary

Traders on Sheffield's Ecclesall Road have said a parking fine policy has been deterring shoppers from the street, with several business owners describing its impact on footfall as "terrible". The episode highlighted tensions between parking enforcement and local trade on one of the city's best-known shopping and hospitality strips, with owners arguing that customers put off by the risk of fines were taking their custom elsewhere.

Specific details of the policy, including which authority enforces it, how many fines have been issued, or the precise nature of the restrictions, could not be confirmed, as the full article was not accessible for this summary. Business owners' complaints centred on lost trade and frustration at the policy's effect on an already competitive high street, though these claims could not be independently verified, and no further developments have since emerged to clarify the matter.
