## Key points

- About 100 residents have complained to the city over tourist crowds.
- They fear blocked roads could hinder wildfire evacuations and emergency response.
- They seek city action, not financial compensation.

## Summary

Residents near the Hollywood Sign have filed a legal complaint against Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass and Councilmember Nithya Raman, saying crowds of tourists create fire and safety risks. They argue that traffic on the area’s narrow roads could trap residents and obstruct emergency crews during a wildfire.

About 100 people from three neighbourhoods say visitor numbers grew after a viewing area was created in 2011. Their complaint also cites litter, cigarette butts and a lack of public toilets. They are seeking an injunction requiring the city to act, rather than financial compensation; possible measures include restricting access or restoring vegetation.
