## Key points

- A Fiesta driver entered a Bournemouth cycle lane.
- The driver said he was lost while setting up his sat-nav.
- The councillor called for better driver training.

## Summary

A Ford Fiesta driver in Bournemouth drove along a red cycle lane behind a cyclist, apparently mistaking it for the road, and mounted the pavement when the lane diverted around a bus stop. The incident matters because it forced the cyclist to stop and raised concerns about driver awareness and safety in cycle lanes.

The footage was recorded by Liberal Democrat councillor Adrian Chapmanlaw, who said the driver explained he had become lost while setting up his sat-nav. Chapmanlaw called for better driver training and suggested drivers retake the theory test every five years. The article also notes that he was recently suspended by his local party after refusing a school’s request to remove a separate video filmed near a primary school.
