## Key points

- A pickup truck crashed into a busy California restaurant.
- No one was injured, but a supporting pillar was brought down.
- Police arrested the 22-year-old driver on suspicion of DUI.

## Summary

A pickup truck crashed through Chicken Thyme, a crowded restaurant in Concord, California, last Saturday afternoon. No customers or staff were injured, but the collision damaged the building so severely that the indoor dining room was closed, disrupting the restaurant and two neighbouring businesses.

The owner, Fraidoon Jamshed, said seven or eight customers were inside and estimated the truck was travelling at 70 to 80 miles an hour. It brought down a 16-by-16-foot concrete pillar supporting the roof, and repairs could take months. Police arrested the 22-year-old driver on suspicion of driving under the influence; he was taken to hospital for medical evaluation. The three restaurants’ kitchens remain open for takeaway and delivery.
