## Key points

- A Queensland woman freed a baby koala from a python.
- The joey reunited with its mother, and the snake was unharmed.
- Nell used the video to call attention to threats facing koalas.

## Summary

A woman walking her dog in Queensland intervened after finding a python constricting a baby koala while its mother tried to free it. She untangled the snake and reunited the joey with its mother; both koalas and the python were unharmed. The encounter drew millions of video views and renewed discussion about when people should intervene in wildlife incidents.

The woman, identified as Nell, said the python was too small to swallow the joey and may have misjudged its prey. She described the rescue as a risk to both animals and used the video to highlight pressures facing koalas, including habitat loss, road deaths, fire and disease. She hopes it encourages wildlife volunteering and greater action to protect native species.
