Terry Rozier’s lawyer has reportedly asked a judge to dismiss the former NBA guard’s gambling-related case, arguing that a text message from co-defendant Deniro Laster undermines the prosecution’s central allegation. The defence says the message should effectively end the case because it indicates Rozier did not knowingly participate in a plan to manipulate betting outcomes; prosecutors maintain that he was involved in an illegal scheme.

The charges stem from a March 2023 Charlotte Hornets game in which Rozier played fewer than 10 minutes before leaving with an injury. Prosecutors allege he shared advance information about his exit with Laster, enabling bettors to place successful ‘under’ wagers on his statistics; Rozier has pleaded not guilty and denies wrongdoing. The case has affected his NBA career and has included allegations of wire fraud, money laundering and, later, sports bribery.
