A 13-year-old girl from Sugar Land, Texas, is recovering after a barracuda bit her hand while she was swimming in shallow water in Turks and Caicos. The incident highlights the potential risk of wildlife encounters in popular holiday waters, particularly where reflective jewellery may attract fish.

Claire Macdonel was bitten on Sunday, 19 July, while on holiday. She had been wearing a shiny bracelet, which her family believed may have reflected light and caused the barracuda to mistake her hand for prey.
