## Key points

- The ranking focuses on anime where characters face real consequences.
- Its examples range from war and death games to personal change.
- Plot armour can be avoided without killing characters.

## Summary

The article ranks ten anime series that it says avoid plot armour, the device that lets characters escape serious consequences and can weaken a story’s stakes. It argues that these shows make danger and outcomes feel meaningful by putting major and minor characters at risk.

Examples include *Akudama Drive*, where a criminal crew faces near-impossible heists and a government conspiracy, and *Legend of the Galactic Heroes*, whose wartime story gives characters consequential fates. *Gantz* uses a lethal alien-hunting game to create constant risk, while *Vinland Saga* shows that consequences can also mean characters having to rethink their lives, even when they survive.
