Jamie Foxx has said he would rather forget the 1997 comedy Booty Call, describing it as a job he accepted because better film roles were unavailable. Although the film made a profit, its poor critical reception reportedly contributed to doubts about his career choices before his later breakthrough as a leading actor in Ray.

Directed by Jeff Pollack, Booty Call starred Foxx and Tommy Davidson as friends on a double date whose plans are disrupted by a lack of condoms. It earned more than $20 million from a $7 million budget, but critics objected to its crude humour and episodic feel; Foxx later won major awards, including the Oscar for Best Actor, for portraying Ray Charles in 2004’s Ray.
