Henry Cavill will likely never play James Bond, despite years of speculation, as he auditioned for the role back in 2005 but was passed over for being too young at 22, and is now considered too old to commit to a lengthy franchise arc at 43. The actor also lost out on other high-profile roles early in his career, including the lead in 2006's Tristan & Isolde and the lead vampire role in Twilight, which went to Robert Pattinson.

Cavill did secure a supporting role in Ridley Scott's Tristan & Isolde alongside James Franco, but told Men's Health he wasn't devastated by the missed opportunities, saying he was "so used to disappointment" from both the acting industry and his boarding school days. He went on to build his career through The Tudors, the $225 million hit Immortals, and ultimately his breakthrough as Superman in Man of Steel and its sequels, cementing his A-list status but also making him, by industry logic, too famous and expensive to be cast as the traditionally lesser-known Bond.
