Actor Amanda Seyfried has revisited her discomfort with the finished sound mix of Les Misérables (2012), the Tom Hooper-directed musical in which she played Cosette. The film was notable for its decision to have the cast sing live on set rather than lip-sync to pre-recorded studio tracks, a bold approach intended to give the performances greater raw emotion, but Seyfried has said the post-production mixing altered her vocals in ways she found disappointing.

Speaking about the experience, Seyfried said her natural vibrato was "completely lost" once the sound team processed her live vocal takes, leaving the finished result sounding different from what she had performed on set. Despite her reservations about how her singing was ultimately presented, Les Misérables was a major critical and commercial success, earning several Academy Award nominations and wins, including a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for co-star Anne Hathaway.
