Josh Brolin was approached to play Owen Grady in Jurassic World but quickly decided the role was not right for him. He said he could not imagine himself as the character, and Chris Pratt was ultimately cast instead; the decision mattered because the film became a major commercial success.

Brolin had previously appeared in blockbuster films including Men in Black III, Deadpool 2 and the Marvel films as Thanos, but generally avoided leading roles in effects-heavy franchises. Jurassic World earned more than $1.6 billion, while its trilogy grossed almost $4 billion, although Brolin’s appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame were even more commercially successful.
