## Key points

- The article ranks martial arts films whose stories are shaped by war.
- *Beach of the War Gods* devotes nearly half its runtime to one battle.
- *The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter* ends with a ten-minute fight.

## Summary

The article ranks martial arts films shaped by war, occupation or military conflict, arguing that the genre can combine elaborate combat with stories of courage, revenge and cultural resistance. It focuses on films where war directly affects the characters, excluding popular martial arts titles without that connection.

Among the films described are *Beach of the War Gods*, whose climactic battle takes up nearly half of its 100-minute runtime, and *Eastern Condors*, about prisoners sent to destroy artillery left after the Vietnam War. *The Eight Diagram Pole Fighter* centres on a survivor of a family massacre who leaves a monastery to rescue his sister; its final fight lasts ten minutes. The supplied article text ends partway through this film’s entry, so it does not show the complete ranking.
