The article argues that films with multiple well-used plot twists can sustain suspense and surprise across genres, from courtroom dramas to horror and mystery thrillers. It introduces eight films it considers especially successful, noting that their twists serve the story rather than appearing as empty shocks.

The supplied text discusses three of the eight: *Witness for the Prosecution*, where secrets emerge during the murder trial of Leonard Vole; *Psycho*, which shifts from suspense to horror and delivers two major revelations; and *Sleuth*, built around a contest of deception between characters played by Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine.
