The A2 e-tron is Audi’s most efficient EV to date
Audi has unveiled the A2 e-tron, which it describes as the most efficient electric vehicle in the company's history. Positioned in Audi's compact entry-level segment, the car prioritises energy efficiency over performance, contrasting with higher-end models such as the RS e-tron GT Performance, and represents Audi's push to make efficient EVs more accessible.
Audi says the A2 e-tron consumes 12.8 kWh per 100km and can travel around 646km (roughly 400 miles) on a single charge, though this figure is based on the more lenient European WLTP testing standard rather than the US EPA rating. The efficiency gains come largely from aerodynamic improvements, including refined exterior surfaces, reduced wheel gaps and flush electric door handles, giving a drag coefficient of 0.24. Buyers can choose from three battery sizes (52kWh, 61kWh or 84kWh), with fast charging taking 24 to 29 minutes for a 10-80% top-up, and the car also supports bidirectional charging for powering devices or homes. Preorders open on 10 September ahead of a December launch, priced from €38,200 (around $44,300), though Audi has indicated it is designed for European customers and is unlikely to reach the US market.
