## Key points

- The M5 MacBook Pro is $200 cheaper than the M6.
- M6 gains may be modest for everyday use.
- The 15-inch Air is also discounted to $1,549.

## Summary

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M5 chip is being discounted by $200 at Amazon and Walmart, making it a better-value buy than the newer M6 model for many people. The article argues that the M6’s performance improvements are modest for everyday work and content creation, so the price gap may be hard to justify.

The M6 adds two CPU and GPU cores, improved AI performance and Wi-Fi 7, but the base M5 MacBook Pro shares its chip with the MacBook Air and iPad Pro. The Pro’s advantages over the 15-inch Air include a brighter mini-LED display, stronger HDR and extra ports. The Air is also discounted: its 16 GB memory, 1 TB storage model costs $1,549, or $150 below Apple’s price.
