The Audi S6 Sportback E-tron proves that sedans still matter
Audi's S6 Sportback E-tron is an electric performance sedan-wagon hybrid that shows the German brand's fast-sedan tradition translates well to EVs, even as Audi has scaled back its previous all-electric-by-2033 ambitions. Rather than relying on a heavy all-wheel-drive system, the car uses a motor on each axle with a centrally mounted battery, delivering strong performance and quick charging that a reviewer found compelling during real-world testing around Los Angeles.
The S6 uses 800V architecture with a 100kWh (94.4kWh usable) battery, producing 543 horsepower and a 0-60mph time of 3.7 seconds, and starts at $80,895. Audi claims a 10-80% charge in as little as 21 minutes, with a rated range of 326 miles; in mixed testing the reviewer averaged 2.4 miles per kWh over 295 miles and saw peak charging rates up to 270kW. Compared with the rival BMW i5 M60, the Audi offers roughly 45 miles more range for slightly less money, despite having less power. The tester, fitted with $13,595 of luxury and tech options, also featured a 14.5-inch infotainment screen, sport-tuned air suspension and smooth one-pedal driving, though rear headroom is tight due to the sloping Sportback roofline.
- Audi S6 Sportback E-tron blends fast-sedan heritage with EV power and range.
- 543hp, 0-60mph in 3.7 seconds, 326-mile range, from $80,895.
- Outranges BMW i5 M60 rival but has less horsepower.
