The B-52's have announced Ancient Culture: Mesopotamia Revisited, a deluxe reissue of their 1982 Mesopotamia EP that includes previously unreleased outtakes, alternate mixes and live recordings. The original release grew out of a collaboration with Talking Heads' David Byrne that was intended to be a full album but was pared back to an EP; Kate Pierson has said the band felt rushed by their manager to deliver the record quickly rather than disliking Byrne. The reissue restores the tracklist to its originally intended form, giving fans a fuller version of a project that was cut short at the time.

The three-disc edition pairs newly remastered versions of the original six songs with three outtakes: unreleased recordings of "Big Bird" and "Adios Desconocida", plus "Queen Of Las Vegas", which had surfaced on 2002's Anthology. A second disc collects International Mixes and Tom Durack remixes, while a third disc, titled Meso-America, presents a largely unreleased recording of the band's concert at New York's Roseland Ballroom on 19 April 1982. A newly remastered version of "Mesopotamia" is already out, and the full set is due on 21 August via Rhino.
