The B-52s have announced an expanded reissue of Mesopotamia, their 1982 EP produced by Talking Heads' David Byrne, which the band say restores the project to its original vision. Titled Ancient Culture: Mesopotamia Revisited, the deluxe set gathers unreleased outtakes, alternate mixes and a 1982 concert recording, and will be released on 21st August as a 3xCD/3xLP set and on streaming services, with pre-orders now open.

The collection's first disc remasters the original six songs and adds three previously unreleased tracks, the second features remixes, and the third captures the band's concert at New York City's Roseland Ballroom on 19th April 1982. The original sessions began in 1981 but were cut short by management, who rushed out the six-track EP; Kate Pierson later likened the band's relocation from Athens, Georgia, to an Upstate New York communal house to The Shining, and their democratic writing style clashed with Byrne's denser studio approach, though the release still reached No. 35 on the Billboard 200. In September, the B-52s will also reunite with DEVO for an eight-date co-headlining tour.
