## Key points

- Slash and Axl Rose shared a dislike of Kiss.
- Rose said Kiss put other desires ahead of music.
- Paul Stanley visited Guns N’ Roses at Steven Adler’s request.

## Summary

Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Axl Rose shared a dislike of Kiss, despite often disagreeing with each other. Rose argued that Kiss put money and other desires ahead of music, while Guns N’ Roses prioritised its music; the dispute reflects a wider criticism that Kiss’s theatrical image overshadowed its songs.

Slash said Kiss frontman Paul Stanley briefly visited the band while they were preparing their first album, but Guns N’ Roses had no interest in working with him. The visit was arranged because drummer Steven Adler admired Stanley. Stanley later called it ironic that Slash criticised Kiss’s look while maintaining his own recognisable stage image.
