## Key points

- Grohl condemned Guns N’ Roses in a 1992 interview.
- He objected to their macho image and stage spectacle.
- He said the show left the music behind.

## Summary

In a 1992 interview, Dave Grohl sharply criticised Guns N’ Roses, dismissing their music and stage style as excessive and dull. His comments came as both the band and Nirvana were at the height of their popularity, making the public attack a pointed contrast between two prominent rock acts.

Grohl objected to what he saw as the band’s macho heavy-metal image and theatrical shows, saying the spectacle overwhelmed the music. He also claimed they could not play in a small club and compared their appeal unfavourably with Lawrence Welk. The article presents this as Grohl’s personal view of the group’s music and attitude.
