## Key points

- GoPro Mission 1 Pro is WIRED’s top action-camera pick.
- DJI and Insta360 offer strong alternatives for specific uses.
- Consider a 360 camera for greater shooting flexibility.

## Summary

WIRED’s 2026 guide recommends action cameras for different needs, with the GoPro Mission 1 Pro named the best overall option. It highlights improved image quality, durability and increasingly capable alternatives from DJI and Insta360, while noting that 360 cameras may also suit some users.

- GoPro Mission 1 Pro: best overall; $599–$700, with a 1-inch sensor, 8K/60 video and 4K/240 slow motion.
- DJI Osmo Action 6: named the best traditional action camera.
- GoPro Hero 13 Black: recommended as a cheaper GoPro option, despite the older Hero 12 Black being removed for poor value.
- Insta360 Ace Pro 2: recommended for vlogging; listed at $390.
- The Mission 1 Pro supports 1080p at up to 960 fps, has strong low-light performance and USB audio, but is heavier and lacks built-in storage.
- A base Mission 1 is expected to cost $100 less for users who do not need the Pro model’s higher frame rates.
