The best kettles in the UK to save energy and speed up your cuppa, tested

The Guardian · 2 hours ago

The Guardian's product testers have reviewed electric kettles available in the UK, aiming to help buyers choose a model that saves energy and boils water faster. Although kettles all perform the same basic task, the review found significant differences in design, energy efficiency, durability and features such as variable temperature settings and keep-warm functions, meaning the choice can meaningfully affect daily energy use and convenience.

Thirteen kettles were tested using power meters, timers, probe thermometers and noise measurement apps to assess boiling speed, energy consumption, heat retention and noise levels. Models were shortlisted for energy efficiency, low minimum fill capacity, ease of use or maintenance, value for money and build quality, with the Bosch Sky named the best all-rounder for its variable temperatures, double-walled steel housing, low 300ml minimum boil and keep-warm setting; the Ninja Perfect Temperature was rated fastest-boiling, and the Lakeland Digital double-walled kettle the best budget variable-temperature option.
