## Key points

- Sarah Snook will lead a present-day reimagining of The Birds.
- The plot centres on a disappearance, murder mystery and bird attacks.
- HBO is developing the series with Universal Global Television.

## Summary

HBO has taken on the development of a limited series inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds and Daphne du Maurier’s novella, with Sarah Snook set to star. The project reimagines the story in the present day, placing a murder mystery alongside the unexplained bird attacks.

Snook will play Myra Massey, who returns home with her young daughter while escaping a custody battle and investigating a childhood friend’s disappearance. Tom Spezialy wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Snook, David Heyman and others; Universal Global Television and HBO will co-produce. Earlier attempts to revisit the story, including a planned film remake and BBC series, did not proceed.
