## Key points

- Buddy Guy said B.B. King influenced every electric guitarist.
- King helped popularise expressive string-bending.
- His style built on earlier blues players and reached across genres.

## Summary

Buddy Guy said that B.B. King influenced every electric guitarist, describing him as “the father of squeezing the string on the electric guitar”. The claim highlights how King’s distinctive approach helped shape electric guitar playing across blues, rock and pop.

Guy recalled that before King, guitarists played the instrument more like an acoustic guitar, while King made expressive note-bending and an electrified sound central to his style. King was himself influenced by earlier blues musicians, including T-Bone Walker, and built on their work; Guy’s own influence has reached guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards.
