‘The Boroughs’ Wraps Run As Newest Series Release In Top 40 Of Netflix’s What We Watched Report
Netflix's supernatural drama "The Boroughs" has finished its run as the most recent series release to feature in the Top 40 of the streamer's latest "What We Watched" viewership report, despite having already been cancelled after just one season. The show, executive produced by Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers, illustrates how Netflix weighs cost and cast against viewership when deciding renewals, as its high production budget meant it needed stronger numbers than cheaper comedies to survive.
The series, starring Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Clarke Peters and Bill Pullman, logged 23.1 million views between its 27 May premiere and 30 June, placing it at No. 35 in the report covering January to June 2026. By comparison, the renewed comedies Season 2 of "The Four Seasons" (15.8 million views, No. 62) and Season 2 of "Running Point" (21.1 million views, No. 44) both secured third seasons despite lower viewership, reflecting their lower production costs and correspondingly lower renewal thresholds. Netflix's Head of UCAN Scripted Series, Jinny Howe, said multiple factors informed the cancellation decision, adding the studio remained proud of the show despite it not returning.
- "The Boroughs" cancelled after one season despite Top 40 Netflix ranking
- Drama drew 23.1 million views, ranking No. 35, below renewal threshold
- Cheaper renewed comedies had fewer views but lower cost bars
