‘The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen’ Gets Disney Greenlight; Raven-Symoné & Adrienne Bailon To Return For Latest Franchise Installment

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Disney has greenlit The Cheetah Girls: Next Gen, a new instalment in its long-running musical franchise, for Disney Channel and Disney+. The film marks a notable revival of a property that was a major ratings success in the 2000s, with original stars Raven-Symoné and Adrienne Bailon returning as Galleria and Chanel, and Debra Martin Chase, producer of the first three films, back on board. It signals Disney's intent to extend a nostalgic brand to a new generation of young viewers.

The music-driven film begins production in South Africa this month, following Galleria and Chanel as they travel to Africa with Galleria's daughter Faith and her three friends to volunteer at a wildlife sanctuary, eventually becoming the new Cheetah Girls. Returning cast include Lynn Whitfield and Lori Alter, with Sabrina Bryan making a special appearance and Sophia Bush in a supporting role. New additions include Leah Sava' Jeffries as Faith and South African newcomer Kamogelo Ramashala. Bille Woodruff directs, and the film is produced by Disney Kids & Family.
