Eva Green decided against starring in Lars von Trier’s 2009 horror film *Antichrist* after discussions about its nudity and sexual content went beyond what she was comfortable with. Although working with von Trier had been a dream, she said she feared the role would leave her badly criticised.
Charlotte Gainsbourg took the lead, performing scenes of extreme sexual violence and bodily harm. The film’s first screening at Cannes drew boos and walkouts, and reports said at least four people fainted; Gainsbourg won the festival’s Best Actress award.
