Canon has unveiled the EOS R8 Mark II, a full-frame mirrorless camera that adds in-body image stabilisation, one of the most notable features missing from the original R8. The stabilisation, offering up to 7.5 stops of shake correction, makes this the lightest full-frame Canon camera to include the feature, positioning it as a more affordable, accessible alternative to the pricier EOS R6 Mark III while still improving meaningfully on its predecessor.

The camera will be available from late October, priced at $1,899 for the body alone or $2,099 with a 24-50mm stabilised lens, sitting between the original R8's $1,499 launch price and the R6 Mark III's $2,799. It keeps the same 24.2-megapixel sensor and 40fps electronic-shutter burst shooting as before, but adds an improved autofocus system with better subject tracking, 4K/60fps video (up to 180fps at 1080p), and a retro-inspired, more angular design inspired by the 1987 EOS 650. Canon is also releasing a free Windows app, Dual Pixel 3D Converter, that uses the camera's dual-pixel data to generate 3D images and videos from standard photos.
