Mick Fleetwood has described Fleetwood Mac’s 1968 blues track ‘Love That Burns’ as almost his favourite song by the band, saying it “kills” him emotionally because of its connection to co-founder Peter Green. The reflection underlines Fleetwood’s enduring affection for the group’s early, blues-focused period and the lasting impact of Green’s talent and later personal difficulties.

The song appeared on Fleetwood Mac’s second album, Mr Wonderful, released in 1968, and was not a major hit. In a 2012 interview, Fleetwood said the recording represented his musical “training ground” and influenced his later playing, including on ‘Oh Daddy’; he also recalled how Green’s decline followed the band’s early European success and a reported acid-taking incident in Munich.
