Kane Parsons says filmmaker Osgood Perkins has become an important mentor and ally while he developed A24’s Backrooms. Parsons credits Perkins with encouraging a firm, director-led approach to protecting the project’s creative identity, particularly against changes that could make it feel like a conventional horror film.
The 20-year-old director said Perkins’ willingness to refuse unsuitable requests helped him become more assertive and “stubborn” in creative decisions.
