- The 1978 reggae record stood out to the Metallica drummer.

## Summary

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich named Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1978 live album *Babylon By Bus* among the greatest live records ever. His choice stands out because Ulrich’s musical roots are in heavy metal, yet he said Marley’s performance captured a powerful connection between the band and its audience.

In a 2020 interview, Ulrich praised the album’s unity and the group’s distinctive groove, saying it could surpass even Marley’s studio recordings. He described Marley and the Wailers as a true band and a force that brought Jamaican music to a wider audience; Ulrich had not attended the performances himself.
