The Freyas, a New Awards Ceremony Celebrating Nordic Film and TV Talent, to Launch in Helsinki (EXCLUSIVE)
A new awards ceremony called The Freyas, also known as the Nordic Film & TV Awards, will launch in Helsinki on 22 September 2026, celebrating film and television talent from across the Nordic region. The event, held at Finlandia Hall during the Helsinki International Film Festival's industry gathering, comes as Nordic titles have been gaining global recognition, notably "Sentimental Value," which won this year's Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
The ceremony will honour achievements by directors, actors, producers, cinematographers, screenwriters and composers from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, and is designed as a travelling event that will move to Copenhagen (2027), Stockholm (2028), Oslo (2029) and Reykjavík (2030) in subsequent years. It was founded by Kirpi Uimonen, Joonas Nurmi, Tina Jøhnk Christensen and Anke Hofmann, with confirmed presenters and jury members including actors Alexander Karim and Nanna Blondell, directors Zaida Bergroth and Dome Karukoski, and producers from across the five Nordic countries, alongside international industry guests such as press, executives, agents and financiers.
