Glen Hansard and other friends helped bring Mic Christopher’s unfinished debut album, Skylarkin’, to release after the Dublin singer-songwriter died in 2001 following an accident in the Netherlands. The project mattered because it preserved Christopher’s completed songs and creative intentions, turning a posthumous record into a lasting tribute to a well-regarded figure in Ireland’s music scene.

Christopher had left notes on the recordings, and former Mary Janes bandmate Karl Odlum, alongside David Odlum, helped finalise the album with contributions from Hansard, Lisa Hannigan, Gemma Hayes and others. Released on 29 November 2002, Skylarkin’ won Best Irish Album at the 2003 Meteor Awards, later achieved platinum sales in Ireland, and included ‘Heyday’, which subsequently featured in a Guinness advert.
