Hypnohead, the developers behind The King Is Watching, have announced a new game called The Crab Is Walking, a roguelite city-builder in which players build tetromino-shaped districts on the back of a giant crustacean while sending armies out to fight wasteland insects. The announcement matters for fans of the studio's earlier hit, as it clarifies that Hypnohead is not yet working on a direct sequel, instead channelling lessons learned from The King Is Watching into a new, more ambitious project with its own distinct mechanics.

Each run lets players choose a different "Ride" to found their settlement on and a "Rider" to lead troops into combat, with different pairings suiting different playstyles; district tiles can be arranged to boost production, fuel the Ride, or strengthen the army, and battles appear to play out as an autobattler. In a Steam blog post, the developers said the new game allows them to work with a different resolution, more detailed pixel art, more elaborate animations, and more sophisticated unit behaviour and interfaces than were practical in their previous title. The Crab Is Walking has no release date yet, but playtests are planned to begin in 2027.
