- Candidates focused on costs and political influence.
- The result may shape the 2028 presidential race.

## Summary

Democrats won a sweeping victory in the 2026 US midterms, with speeches that celebrated their gains while condemning a political system seen as serving wealthy donors and lobbyists over ordinary people. The article argues that the result weakens Donald Trump’s party and could improve Democrats’ prospects in 2028, though it is too early to know who will win the presidency.

Across hundreds of speeches, candidates promised to tackle the cost of living, the issue the article says drove the surge, and called for better healthcare, education and environmental protections. Michigan’s Abdul El Sayed denounced corporate-funded political advertising and said America should be inclusive and focus on people’s needs. Georgia’s Jon Ossoff criticised Trump’s record, while other speakers urged a more hopeful politics.
