Orson Welles’ final film, *The Other Side of the Wind*, became notable for taking 48 years to reach completion, following decades of unfinished production, legal disputes and missing materials. Its eventual release matters because it allowed audiences to see a long-lost work by one of cinema’s most influential directors.

Filming began in 1970, but production was disrupted by financial problems and arguments over ownership of the footage after Welles’ death in 1985. Netflix financed the restoration and completion of the film, which premiered in 2018, using Welles’ surviving notes and collaborators to assemble the final version.
