The Lord of the Rings Officially Brings Back Sauron for New September 2026 Release

Collider · 2 hours ago

Free League Publishing has announced a new expansion for its Lord of the Rings tabletop roleplaying game, The One Ring, titled The White Tower and the Hall of Gold, set for release in September 2026. The campaign is notable for bringing Sauron back into focus, being set during the Third Age as his power was spreading across Middle-earth, and forms part of a wider wave of Tolkien-inspired releases due over the coming months and years.

The expansion focuses on Gondor and Rohan, letting players explore the last great kingdoms of Men, and will be released as The Lord of the Rings: Realms of the South for the game's E5 ruleset, alongside a new bestiary launching the same month. It arrives amid a busy period for the franchise, with The Rings of Power Season 3 returning to streaming on 11 November, The Hunt for Gollum due in cinemas on 17 December 2027, and an as-yet-unscheduled open-world RPG in development at Warhorse Studios.

  • New One Ring RPG expansion, set in Sauron's rise, out September 2026
