Disney will release Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu on Disney+ on 2 September, following a cinema run that Disney described as underperforming. The move gives the film another opportunity to reach audiences through the streaming service where its television predecessor became a major early success.

Released in cinemas on 22 May 2026, the film grossed $345 million worldwide against a reported $165 million budget. It opened to $165 million globally, then fell 69% in its second weekend; Disney said merchandise sales helped offset weaker ticket revenue. IGN gave the film a 5/10 review, describing it as mediocre.
