Disney+ has ordered a pilot to reboot "The Mickey Mouse Club", the variety show that launched the careers of stars including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell. Deadline reported that the project comes from Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind Hulu's "The Kardashians", with filming taking place in Los Angeles, marking the latest attempt by Disney to revive one of its most storied talent pipelines and continuing a franchise dating back to Walt Disney's original 1920s stage show.

The pilot features 11 new young performers, including Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter and Brooklynn Pitts, who all appear in Disney's upcoming "Camp Rock 3", alongside Erianthe Akaata, Scarlett London Diviney, Michael Cash, Yonas Kibreab, Varonica Mitchell, Kauani, Scarlett Grace Petty and Carter Barnes. Disney described the show as a "showcase for today's most talented young performers", and it is executive produced by Fulwell's Ben Winston, Ashley Edens, Emma Conway and Dave Piendak. The show previously ran on ABC from 1955-59, was revived from 1977-79 and again by the Disney Channel from 1989-96 (the run that produced its best-known alumni), with a brief digital-only revival, "Club Mickey Mouse", following in 2017.

The Mickey Mouse Club is a Disney entertainment programme built around young performers singing, dancing and appearing in comedy sketches. It began as a stage concept in the 1920s before becoming a television show in the 1950s.

The format has returned several times, most notably on the Disney Channel between 1989 and 1996. That version helped introduce future stars including Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell.

Disney has often used the franchise as a way to find and develop young talent for its wider films, television programmes and music projects. Fulwell Entertainment is a production company known for making major entertainment and reality series, including The Kardashians.
